Eastern Kings Fire Department IN EMERGENCY CALL 911
This department was formed in 1966, after a serious fire at North Lake. Quite a number of people gathered to help out. Unfortunately there was not much that could be done, except fire a few buckets of water along with snowballs at the burning barn. To say the least, this delivery method did not prove to be terribly effective. This was the turning point where the community realized that there had to be a better way. A board of directors was formed. Using a system of upfront personal donations, household collections and a bank loan, the founders purchased one truck and built a hall for the equpment. After fighting the first fire, it was realized that one truck carrying 1,200 gallons was not much good ithout another for backup. More money was raised by a variety of means to develop protection for the citizenry. Forty years later the department has four pumpers, two tankers and one rescue vehicle. There is a rolling transport capacity of roughly 11,000 gallons compared to the original 1,200. Another 10,000 gallons is reserved in an underground storage tank in the hall. Two enlargements of the building have taken place, so now there is a modern Fire Hall for the equipment. The department provides aan essential service. A community cannot survive without a fire department.
